Piercing jewellery

After you have had a piercing, if we have used a post, you will need to come back in 2-3 weeks and get that post switched to a shorter one so that the jewellery sits and fits perfectly on your anatomy. This also massively helps with the healing. No-one likes a baggy post, sorry guys, size does matter.

Post Sizes

All of our piercing jewellery  tops sold on line will automatically come with a post that is 1mm x 6mm. If you need a different size then please add a comment in your order at the checkout.

Gold plated

A very thin layer of gold electroplated over a base metal.
(At West it is nearly always a high-grade silver base, and on some bigger
pieces, because of weight , it is brass.)

Most Affordable gold option.

Gold-filled / Rolled gold

A mechanically bonded thick layer of gold over a base metal ( (At West it is nearly always a high-grade silver base, and on some bigger pieces, because of weight , it is brass.)). The gold layer is
much thicker than plating.

Very durable and long-lasting; doesn’t wear off quickly and is much closer to solid gold in look and wear. Great for sensitive skin for most people.

Vermeil

Sterling silver base with a thick layer of gold. So it’s always gold over silver, not base metal.

Higher quality than standard plating. Good durability if cared for.

PVD gold

Gold-coloured layer applied in a vacuum chamber. Often over titanium here at West - and always with real gold.

Extremely wear-resistant; often used on watches. Colour can be very stable. Check if it’s true gold or just “gold tone” coating.

Anodised titanium in gold colour

Titanium that’s colour-treated to look gold, using an electrochemical process, not actual gold.

Very durable colour on lightweight, hypoallergenic titanium. No gold value, but practical. We have this for some of our entry price point piercing pieces here at West.

Solid gold

Entire piece (or the visible portion) is made from an alloy of gold (e.g. 9K, 14K, 18K).

The Rolls Royce of our collections - most durable and valuable option. Can still scratch or bend, but the colour is
through-and-through, not a layer.

Cleaning your jewellery

All of our jewellery is of high quality, and you should be able to wear it 24hrs a day and it won't tarnish. They will need a little love from you though - if the sparkle starts to go you probably don't need a
new pair - you just need to remove them and use a mild soapy water (Fairy liquid is great because it is a de-greaser) and give it a gentle brush with an old toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly before patting dry.
